Translation Misuse Hall of Shame
This is a page for naming and shaming people who have misused ARM member translations.
Examples of translation misuse
Misuse includes things such as:
- Neglecting to credit the translator
- Mis-crediting (eg: assigning credit to yourself for someone else's translation).
- Other offensive uses of translations
More detailed rules for use of ARM member translations can be found over here.
Reason behind this page
The reason we have this page is because we can't control what people do outside of the ARM website.
But we can at least list them on this page to raise awareness of their offenses.
If you're listed here, then you've seriously annoyed ARM's resident translators with some act. Shame on you!
On the 4th of June 2011 it came to the ARM staff attention that this member was doing something pretty annoying with ARM member translations:
Basically, running existing translations through Google Translate to make a new version, and then claiming those versions as his own, and showing them off in the chatroom.
Here's one quote from an ARM chat log, where he unashamedly talks about this act:
04/06/2011 14:54:00 ‹Amit› Au contraire: using the resources available to me, if I remember correctly, is not a crime. 04/06/2011 14:54:11 ‹Amit› Lazy personally said that he did not want his translations to be altered. 04/06/2011 14:54:18 ‹Amit› I do not like artistic constriction. 04/06/2011 14:54:41 ‹Amit› I've thus simply rephrased and idiomaticized his translations, with the aid of literal translation.
(this is just one quote out of a larger chat, where his disrespectful attitude towards ARM member translations is clearly shown).
For this and various other offenses (and previous bannings/warnings/etc that were ignored), Amitabho is now banned from the forum and chatroom, and is also prohibited from further use of ARM member translations.
