Just for the sake of asking, is there any way to add embedded codes? Like YouTube videos for example. . .
| It is possible to allow raw HTML on the wiki, but that's something I'd prefer to avoid, for security reasons (eg: Javascript-based browser attacks, XSS, etc, especially as anyone, possibly including bots can sign up for accounts on the wiki and start editing). That's why I prefer to use MediaWiki extensions (even where HTML tags already exist, for instance CSS). Let me know what kind of HTML you'd like to add, and I can arrange something. In the specific case of embedded videos, there are a couple of MediaWiki extensions I could install: |

Codes for YouTube, Imeem and Chatango would be awesome. ^_^
| I've added support for YouTube (see below), but I've never used Imeem and Chatango before, and don't see much in the way of existing Mediawiki extensions. Could you check those sites and see how users are usually meant to embed those videos into their own websites? It's probably a couple of lines of HTML. If you find that info, give the URLs so I can read the instructions. |
Here's an embedded YouTube video:

Nice! ^_^ Here are some links from Chatango: FAQ, embedded code Imeem's codes can be found on any music or playlist entry, by hitting 'Click here to embed this song'. Here's the FAQ from Imeem. I hope that can be of some use, I'm not very good with website coding.
| Palsa, here's your Chatango chat room: |
[ Copy this | Start New | Full Size ]
| I took a look at the imeem stuff, but it seems they only allow you to play the first 30 seconds of each song when you embed their player in another website. Are you fine with that? Here's an example: |
| Wikipedia's article on imeem says this:
"If imeem determines that the legal copyright owner of an uploaded track is a record label which does not have a deal with imeem the track will be reduced to a 30 second sample when anyone except the original uploader attempts to listen to the track. Regardless of whether a full track or 30 second version is played, the user is presented with links to purchase the track from music retail sites, including Amazon.com and iTunes." |
Palsa:
Awesome! ^_^ Yeah, the 30 second rule is relevantly new, it used to be that only certain tracks would play for 30 seconds, and logging into Imeem would negate that, its a shame they changed their policy. Thanks for adding the codes. ^_^
| There are other music hosts supported by the EmbedVideo plugin (the one that I used for imeem), namely Muzicons and box.net/lite. However, I've just installed an extension that lets you play any MP3s off the wiki, so long as you have URLs to them. |
Here's a basic example:
| There are a lot of other things you can do (eg: play more than 1 mp3, automatically start playback, looping, etc. You can read more about it here, or ask me if you need help. |
