Wiki for the forum

The forum now has a wiki, here.

Seriously though, I thought it would be a nice place, for members to put up various things. Like guides, image galleries, personal member pages, or whatever. Go wild ^^.

I mainly ask that you try to keep it semi-organised. For example, if you add a member page for yourself, don't put it right inside the main page >_>. Rather make a section for member pages, link that section from the main page, and then link your personal page from the member listing page.

If in doubt, ask here and I or someone else familiar with editing wikis will setup the section for you, so you just need to edit an existing page rather than adding links and organising sections.

If you make new pages, or interesting updates, it would be nice if you mention it on the forum so we can discuss and give feedback ^^.

And speaking of cute~ I like the name you chose for the it. A Reyvateil's Wiki. ^_^ Mir and I have discussed, on and off, what we might do with a wiki for Reyvateils, or even a section of Wikipedia written entirely in Hymmnos. There is so much revealing personal information about Reyvateils online, including our Hymn Codes and innermost insecurities <.<, but nothing about humans that might warn us about what we'd be getting into when we partner with certain people or join certain organisations. So we thought it'd be neat for a wiki to contain information relevant to Reyvateils... Also things like how to apply Diquility as painlessly as possible, differences between what a Reyvateil's digestive system considers edible versus what humans consider edible, understanding how Mind Guardians relate to you in everyday life, and such...

It's a shame that there's so little canonical information that explores the world of Ar Ciel and its many, many intricate details from a Reyvateil's perspective.

How I usually add links, is:

1. Add a non-existant link on an an existing page, eg:

[Frelia's Fantastic Forest]

2. Click on the new link, then edit and save the new page.

It was "Reyvawiki" before, but I changed it to "A Reyvateil's Wiki" for lulz ^^.

And, you and Mir are welcome to add articles like that if you feel like it. The more stuff like that that gets added, the better ^^. I'd like the wiki to become a part of our home, like the forum software.

(Actually, Wiki users already have a page setup for them by the software when they join. I'd suggest using that page instead, once you sign up. That way, when people click on your name in the Wiki they'll see your member page).

It's pretty simple really. About the same difficulty level as using bbcode on the forum. The main difference is that anyone can edit the articles, not just the creator and moderators. You can ask here if you have any questions.

Sure, go for it, that's what the wiki is for ^^. If it helps, I can post a couple of your hymn translations up on the wiki, and then you can tidy those up and add additional ones. Just give me a couple of links to your posts, and I'll upload them to the wiki.

I've posted it here. It's also reachable from the main page (Hymn translations -> METHOD_IMPLANTA/.)

The main unusual thing about the wiki markup in that article, is the "<pre>" and "</pre>" opening and closing tags. I added those, because otherwise the wiki wants to format the text itself, which looks really ugly >_>. "pre" is short for "preformatted"

If you want to add new Hymns, here is what you should do:

1. Create a user account for yourself on the wiki, here.

2. Go to the main Hymn listing page, here.

3. Click on the Edit button on the top of the screen.

You'll get a box that has text like this:

Quick explanation:

• "==Ar tonelico 2==" makes a section in the page. Sections are very useful for organizing information, especially on longer articles.
• A "*" at the start of the line makes it a bullet point. Nice for putting things in a list. Just add more lines below with stars in front to add items to the list.
• [single square brackets] are for an external link
• [[double square brackets]] are for an internal link
• That weird pipe, "|", in the middle, means that the text before it is the article name, and the text after it is the description. I had to use "|" in this case, since the wiki doesn't like having "/" in article names for technical reasons, but I still wanted it to show the correct name of the Hymn for people to click on.

4. Add a link for the new hymn. eg, afterwards the text box might look like this:

5. Click Preview, to check your changes.

6. Click on the "Save Page" button at the bottom of the page.
(technically you should also add a summary before saving, but it's not required)

The page will refresh (congrats, you've made your first wiki update ^^). You'll see a red link on the page. The red means that the link is broken (the destination article doesn't exist yet).

7. Click on the broken link.

This will take you to a page where you can edit a new article. For reference, you can copy and paste in the text I already added for the first hymn. Just click on the "edit" button for the first hymn, and then copy and paste my wiki code into your new article.

8. Delete the part between <pre> and </pre>

9. Copy and paste in the new Hymn, from your forum posting.

10. Use Preview to check your new hymn.

11. Make any other relevant changes to the article

12. Click Save Page (now you've added a new Hymn to the wiki ^^).

Wiki's usually don't have a hierarchy, with one article "under" another. They are all "on the top level". But, it is easy to organise them, by making articles which list them in various sub-sections (like with the "Ar tonelico 1" and "Ar tonelico 2" sections in my example above).

Feel free to organise your Hymn translations or other parts of the wiki according to AT1/AT2/others/etc, if you feel it will be more tidy that way.

A couple of things you could use it for, if you need ideas ^_^;

• Polish/etc translations
• Keeping track of your alien clan members
• Member page for yourself, where you list the phases of your evolution, with pics ^^;
• Information about Soopians, and random soup-related things
• Shao Kahn worship ^^

You get the idea xD.

Basically, the wiki is like your own personal website, but easy to edit and shared with everyone else on the forum ^^.

I actually meant your other Polish etc translations, not necessarily At-related stuff, Assuming you don't already have a better home for them online ^_^.

Stuff on the Wiki doesn't have to stick to the topic of At stuff (unlike for example the Ar Tonelico Wiki). It's meant to be a place where forum members can put things which interest them. Basically, like the forum, but in Wiki format ^^.
