Progress report

The official English localisation for Ar tonelico 2 was fraught with inaccuracies and otherwise left much to be desired. This area serves as a place for a team of volunteers to plan, organize, and discuss how to do it better. People who aren't directly involved with the project are welcome to offer their feedback and encouragement.

That's a good point. It might be nice to include a separate summary of the significantly mangled ones for the curious, but it's probably for the best to leave IPD names untouched in the patch itself.

Ok then, I guess we'll leave the IPD names intact then. That means that outside the few graphics with the boundary issues, and converting the modified Save/Splash screens back into IPU files, graphic edition is done here.

We could also make that part of the patch optional (for perfectionists)
I don't mind the additional editing work. The question is, how much work would it be for you?

I think there may still be some name changes left for the graphics - Laude -> Loude if we're still sticking to that, along with the Infelsphere guide names and Song Magics (though we may never have finalised that list after it was brought up a while back, so it should possibly wait until we have).

Just one patch for the NTSC, one for the undub NTSC, and maybe even one for the PAL along with a file listing curiosities, changes, and the reasons for making them like KWhazit mentioned sounds good to me. It keeps things simple.

Also did anyone see my question in the script thread about whether we wanted to retranslate QVDATAE.erx/QADATA.erx or just edit them for the most part?

Ah, right. Maybe we should go back to the Item and Song Magic names that were posted sometime back, and begin discussing them.

Agreed. Also, if we take the route of making optional graphic change patches, I have the feeling that there are some people that would want to edit the names for some characters and locations back to their original Japanese romanizations (example: Cloche -> Chroche), which would cause far more problems than they're worth.

Whoa, great fetjuel!
And really... looks like the NISA version began being an actual mess on that file... (not that there weren't problems before that point)

By the way void, if you need any SLUS files to edit and check up if they display correctly/don't go beyond the boundaries, I've got the full text for the Tutorials/Terminology menu (file 67) ready to be edited.

http://metafalica.metalbat.com/aquagon/ ... ls%20Menu/

EDIT: Also, I'd like to claim the MKDATA files for Jakuri (both the Topics themselves, and the intros).

EDIT 2: Oh, and more importantly, now that I have full administrator access to the wiki, I can activate the accounts that we all might need to edit the project status and similar things. So if you need to edit anything in it, make an account, or if you already have one, tell me the name, and I'll do the rest of the activation process.

That SLUS file is never-ending. I finally got through all the tutorials (and they required a lot of condensing to fit), and now I'm hopefully around halfway done with the terminology, with ~1250 characters spare (I had 2500 after finishing the tutorials) :^_^;:

I've created a Void account on the wiki, please can you give it he right permissions?

I've done it as soon as I saw your account in the register log. ;)
Feel free to use the wiki as you need.

Here's another batch to have fun with:
Skycat synthesis events

aquagon wrote:Also, I'd like to claim the MKDATA files for Jakuri (both the Topics themselves, and the intros).

All yours. I'll work on Cloche's for now since no one's staked a claim on them, then probably the Sasha and Cynthia synthesis events.

Okay, here are all of Jakuri's Talk Topics and intro lines, ready for review and editing.

Here's some more:

Cloche openers
Cloche conversations

Cynthia and Sasha synthesis topics are going well too. I'd forgotten how often Croix inserts a sizable dose of dry wit, but he helps keep things amusing.

Well, I've edited Cloche's talk topics, and it's excellent to see her tone restored. However it seems that added to all the other edited talk topics, it's seems to be more than my erx repacker script can grow the file by, which is something that came up when I was doing Jakuri's, and which I found a technical workaround for.

I've found another technical workaround to try and save a little more space, but it doesn't seem to be enough, and we've got 2996 characters (5992 bytes) too many.

I've been on a fruitless search for the sjis font file used, since if we could change the 2 byte jsis ellipsis character to be vertically aligned at the bottom rather than the middle we could replace all instances of the 6 byte/3 character ... we currently use with it, which would save a lot of space given how frequently it's used.

Finding it seems to be beyond me though, so as much as I dislike the idea I may have to trim (on average) 11 characters off per mkdata file :(

Two more sets done:
Cynthia synthesis
Sasha synthesis

I'll do the Spica synthesis events next unless aquagon wants those, in which case I'll take a look at HKDATA (the talk topics where Croix is conspicuously absent).

Arright. I'm somewhat back for now, but I'm not current as to the state of things at the moment. My old SLUS executable text dumps (and some of the ERX dumps I did more recently), as you may have noticed, were never fully ready for prime-time. Some probably caused glitches galore after insertion, and others simply weren't optimal due to pointer duplication messing up the order of text strings. I want to fix all of that once and for all.

However, I don't know how you guys have dealt with the crap as a result of my old dumps in my absence. I've already started developing a new generalized text dumper for the SLUS executable and ERX files. I figure the method used will be particularly helpful for those blocks which contain dialogue, and it should also make it possible to include the Japanese text in the same file.

I have no idea if any of this is actually necessary at this point, though. Thoughts?

EDIT: Here's a little sample: Dualstall dialogue with all lines in their proper places: http://www.tales-cless.org/SLUS_217.88.78-test.txt
