I know how that feels. I even had a 3-day blackout due to a storm a long time ago. It was scary.

My old car was getting too expensive to service/maintain, so it looks like I'll be getting a new one (that's also a lot nicer than the old one in most regards) within the next couple of days (people from work have been helping to organize it). Well, not that I'm a fan of cars (I barely know a few different model names) or use one for much besides getting to and from work and occasional errands, but it will be nice to have working transport again.

Been there too, hurricane Ike managed to make it all the way up to Cincinnati and it blew out my power for a few days . . . worst thing wasn't the lack of power, rather the fact that my mom and I had just bothered to spend a lot of money on food for our fridge that same day and it all spoiled.

Well, at least you were able to cook the food before it spoiled, I lived in an apartment complex, it's builders did everything as cheap as possible so we were stuck with electric stoves, pretty much everything went bad that we didn't ingest after the first day.

EDIT: I got me a pet turtle for a few days. Yay, I've always wanted a turtle!!

Moral of the Story: Have a small portable butane/gas burner on standby for such occasions. You should be able to find something small enough to tuck into a closet out of the way in a place that sells camping equipment.

I'm currently stuck with that situation where I currently live. It's all electric. With me being used to cooking with a gas stove, many times me and electric stove do not get along. It's so slow in changing its temperatures compared to gas.
