I must first of all say that Chinese is not Mandarin. Chinese includes all the dialects used in China and depending on where you are, the natives will claim their dialect as "Chinese". Example: in Hong Kong, if you say Chinese, they will think of Cantonese. In Mainland China, if you say Chinese, they will think of Mandarin or what they call 普通话 (pǔtōnghuà), etc.
Well, anyway, you've been to China and went back I assume, how was it? I myself am not fluent in either Cantonese or Mandarin, but I know a little bit here and there.
