So even insignificant people like me can make pages, eh? How cool~

What we should really have is a page dedicated to the fanhymns made by the forum members! That's something I'd really like to see. ^__^

You're welcome to add pages or new sections, and it's really easy too, once you have a wiki acount. You don't need to go through a webmaster, like you would with a normal website.

If you'd like, I can add a couple of the fanhymns to a new section, and then the forum members can add the rest. Just give me links to the forum posts.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=159&start=0

Many hymns made in the forum's First Era are on the first page ^__^ Thank you very much! Just adding one or two is fine. Once I figure out how to use it, I can add in the rest of the Hymns there, I think.

@ilutiern: I've added 3 of the Fanhymns, to this page:

wiki/index.php/Fanhymns

@Lazy: I've put the translations on a single page for now, which should be simpler for editing:

wiki/index.php/Hymn_translations

Just edit that page, and add any new hymns in the correct sections. You can edit individual sections (there are per-section edit buttons), or the entire article at once.

You can make a new section like this:

Code:  [ Select all ]
==Section 1 title==

Text for section 1...

==Section 2 title==

Text for section 1...

And you make sub-sections by adding more equals signs, eg:

Code:  [ Select all ]
==Section 1 title==

Some text...

===Sub-section 1.1===

Some text....

===Sub-section 1.2===

Some text...

==Section 2 title==

Some text...

===Sub-section 2.1===

Some text...

===Sub-section 2.2===

Some text...

What's very nice, is that when you have enough sections (3 or more), the page automatically starts getting a table of contents for easy navigation. You can see an example of this in the Fanhymns page.

We can split they hymns off into separate articles again later if we need to, but I think that editing will be simpler in single articles for now ^^.

Also, I think you can use Hymmnos fonts on the wiki (you just need to use the right markup. Basically a "<font>" HTML tag with the correct settings).

Hey, I have 15 already -__- and that's not even all the ones I've made. (though I'm not putting any more unless I really like the songs, eheh) As soon as I get to your letter I'll be adding as many as I can find within the dozen pages of the new forums and in the archive of the old forums TAT So much work. Not really, but still.

@Lazy: You just needed something to motivate you ^_^.

Also, I just checked, Hymmnos fonts do in fact work on the wiki. You can use this markup:

Code:  [ Select all ]
<span style="font-family: Hymmnos Punctuated, Hymmnos; font-size: 112%">This text will appear in the Hymmnos font</span>

I got that syntax by copying from "view source" on the forum. The wiki software (MediaWiki, the same as Wikipedia's) supports a fair amount of HTML markup ^_^.

It's also possible to customize the MediaWiki parser in various ways, including adding new tags, eg:

Code:  [ Select all ]
<hymmnos>This text will appear in the Hymmnos font</hymmnos>

More info on how to add new wiki tags, here.

I don't really know PHP, but I could probably figure out enough to be able to add extensions like the above myself. Or maybe we can ask Deci very nicely and she'll take a look at it, if there is demand for it ^_^.

I think it's best that we ask Deci-nee to add it, so only a simple <hymmnos> tag will need to be used, instead of that long font family thingie.

I've just written and installed the extension myself ^_^. You can now use the <hymmnos> tag on the wiki \w/. My first PHP extension evah. Let me know if there are any problems >_>

Have fun ^_^.

@Deci: if you want to check this extension, or add your own, here is how:

1) Extension PHP files are under wiki/extensions

2) They get included into the wiki logic, by an "include" PHP line in LocalSettings.php (my include for the hymmnos extension is near the bottom of the file).

Aww, how cute. Wizzard's first PHP extension. And it was written for a wiki! Is there any clearer attestation to his spirit of sharing? ^_^

Even though it's a very simple function, it looks kind of complicated... I think I'm kind of spoilt by this forum's BBcode system. But we'll be able to do things with PHP functions that we can't do with custom BBcodes, including the thing where mousing over the Hymmnos text prints a tooltip in the regular font! (Trying that with custom BBcode will break nested tags badly.)

It's more complicated, but it's a lot more powerful. You aren't limited to the kind of tags that the software developers had in mind. eg, you can add extra tag arguments without having to make a completely new tag definition ^_^.

I think it's a difference in philosophy between the two programs. For phpbb, regular, non-technical forum admins can add codes fairly easily, without having to understand programming. They are considered to be end users, rather than server admins who would muck around with PHP files and the like.

For MediaWiki, you are expected to have a server admin as part of the "staff", if you want to be able to customize lower level things. Regular wiki administrators can't add these additions themselves, they have to go through a server admin. But in return, the system allows you to customize it a lot more.

In a way it's kind of like Windows vs Linux (sorry xD), where Windows apps tend to give you simple configuration options, but not much power/extensibility. Whereas on Linux, you often have to do things in a far more technical way, but you get a lot more power over the configuration.

To be fair, PHP is a far easier language to learn than most others I've used, and I'm comfortable enough with it that beyond learning MediaWiki-specific functions and the extension architecture, there isn't much of a learning curve. It's still a pretty low barrier to entry.

It's reaaally easy.
Spoiler for Summary of adding fanhymns >_>:  [ Open ]
To add a new hymn, surround its name in ===, Eg. ===EXEC_PAJA/.===
To add the hymn contents, put the song under the name and on the line above the song, put <pre>
Eg. <pre>
Wee ki ra hymme

At the end of the song, on the line under it put </pre>
Eg. Was yea ra chs hymmnos mea
</pre>

When you want to add a person's name (like, Infel_phira or Vermillion Sky), you just surround the name in ==. Eg. ==Vermillion Sky==
And then you put all the songs under the name.

I've never done any web related programming with Perl, but I have used it quite a bit for mostly text parsing purpose. It's surprisingly easy to use.
