It was horrible. Ever since birth, Sikibu had never experienced anything that destructive to her poor mind. Her head was completely dizzy, she could hardly think of anything other than Ms. Akiko's "try not to get killed" warning. She was genuinely scared, and began regretting that she had allowed herself to leave the comfortable dark room she had been residing in and go out into such a chaotic and dangerous place like this. There were people everywhere, walking around, chatting, laughing, some of them even paid notice to her - after all, she probably stuck out like a sore thumb with those messy long hair and untidy, boring clothes.
Trying to avoid meeting eye as much as possible, she checked the class schedules. PE is not optional? What a pain. It looked like the only choices were between Socioeconomics VS Chemistry, and Wave Biology VS Philosophy. The first choice was easy - Chemistry all the way! Why in the world would someone like her care about the economy? As for the second choice, she was a bit attracted to how the word "Philosophy" ringed, but after much thought, she decided to pick Wave Biology after all. She would not want to feel oppressed in a class where the instructors would have different opinion than those of hers. Besides, Ms. Akiko who just gave her a tour didn't seem like the type who cared much, which means she would probably be safe from attention in class.
For a second, Sikibu thought about dropping by the Caféteria, but the feeling of wanting to throw up still lingered in her stomach. She wanted to save up money too, not for any particular reason, but she would hate getting stuck in a situation where she would need to ask for money from her family or someone else. Her eyes caught the attention of the announcement regarding the school parcel, and in preparation for the worst scenario, she started calculating how much money she would be allowed to spend per day if she only received one thousand Leaf per month. In confusion, she failed to remember that she still had the 10000 Leaf that every student started with, but then again that's the way she is.
Looking up at the list of part time jobs, it took her no more than one glance to decide on what she would be interested in - a work at the library! The idea of "helping the customers" scared her a little, but she hoped that those who visit libraries certainly must be quiet, introvert people like her, and would not trouble her any further than a couple of very simple questions. And once again, she started calculating how much money she would be allowed to spend if she were to receive the monthly pay from doing this job.
And then the next list was what that troubled her the most: the list of roommates. Where could I have been assigned to? She checked. Sikibu, Sikibu... The Academy's standard required that her name be written in reverse of her tradition, in other words given name preceding family name, but even then it didn't took too long for her to find out that she would be staying in Room 8, together with Lecra Atrunes. Such a nice name, and it sounded like a girl's name. She took a breath of relief. She would certainly faint on this very spot if her roommate had been a male.
All those information gathering had taken a lot of time, so Sikibu headed to the Office Strata in order to register for her classes. The secretary was a young man, and his smile was kind, but even then she could not stop her legs from shaking and her voice stuttering like a broken record. It took her a lot longer than other students to finish her registering for Chemistry and Wave Biology. Before she could finish signing her name, a public announcement resounded, telling the students to gather for a presentation party tonight.
"You definitely have to join this!" said the secretary with a honest voice, "It's a perfect chance for a shy kid like you to socialize, you know! Get along well, make some friends, enjoy youth, alright?" But events like parties are exactly what she could never stand. Too many people, too much noise, she would simply get drown in the mere atmosphere alone. So she decided to forget the secretary's suggestion and instead just went straight to the dorm, ignoring the waves of cheerful students who are heading out for the night party.
Arriving at her room, she checked the information engraved upon her brain again. My roommate is Lecra, Lecra Atrunes. All right, here I go! I'll try my best! And yet she opened the door so slowly and slightly, there was a weird creaking sound. But there was nobody inside. However, she could see that her roommate had already unpacked her stuffs, which means she had certainly arrived a while ago and had left for the party. Feeling relaxed, she entered the room, and began unpacking as well. Her package was incredibly simple, only a couple sets of clothes, underwear and daily necessities.
And then Sikibu sat on her bed, taking the surrounding into her eyes. The room was quite neat - the complete contrary of her own room which was a horrible mess. Still she felt a nice, heart-warming feeling from just being here. Maybe I'll take a bath... With that in mind, she went into the bathroom and spent an unnecessarily long time relaxing in the bath. But right after getting off and about to wear her clothes, she heard the sound of the room's door clicking open. Surprised, her body still naked, she hid herself behind the bathroom's door, hugging herself. Why am I hiding like this? It must be my roommate returning from the party, and yet what am I doing?
Peeking through the hinge, Sikibu saw a really pretty young girl entering the room and sitting on the bed. Without doubt, this girl was Lecra Atrunes, her roommate. The girl had pink hair with a gentle expression that calmed Sikibu down. Should I come out and greet her? But while thinking so, she realized that she had forgotten to bring new changes of clothes into the bathroom. What should she do now? It would be incredibly improper etiquette to just come out covered in a towel, so after much thought she decided to just stay here and wait until her roommate, Lecra, went to sleep.
But that was a stupid decision. Her roommate was probably intentionally waiting for her, so she sat there and read books. The warm water in the bath tub had already cooled off, and now the room was almost frozen cold, making Sikibu tremble in shiver. It must have felt like ages until Lecra closed her book, wrote something into her diary, and laid on the bed. Even then, Sikibu still waited a little more until she decided that the coast was completely clear, before finally leaving her hiding spot and getting pajamas to wear. I've probably caught a cold - this sucks. I'll just take some medicine then go to sleep right away, otherwise I won't get better fast enough for tomorrow's morning classes.
Turning to Lecra, now sleeping peacefully, she whispered at a voice quiet so as to not wake up her roommate. "My name is Sazonari Sikibu... Pleased to meet you! Please take care of me!" And then she drifted off into the world of dreams the moment her head touched the softness of a pillow. It had been a long day for her.
