Deleted the sig, and it looks like Aquagon already gave a warning.

@aquagon: If you also want to delete sigs, it's fairly straightforwards:

Member's page -> Administrate user -> Basic tools -> Quick tools -> Delete signature -> Submit

I don't think we need to wait for spammers to remove links from their sig.

I wonder if we should also put a capcha on the forum registration? (iirc, you can chat immediately after signing up, though you do also get an email).

I think, given all those spammers, that we should.

I finally got around to looking into this (sorry for the delay ).
However, it looks like it's going to be a real pain to enable for the forum.

Unlike the mediawiki recapcha mod, this one requires a fairly large number of phpbb3 source code edits.

And furthermore, for some of the specified edits (search for code X, replace with code Y), don't all seem applicable on our forum's PHP (there are some code X in the forum PHP that's a bit different, and I'm not entirely sure why).

I think it might be a significant amount of work (especially since I'm not a php developer, and I'm not familiar with the forum code structure, including Deci's updates), to add this mod.

If it were a very important update, I might take a few hours, or even a day or two to study the code and figure out exactly what needs to be edited in the PHP to enable the capcha logic in the registering page without breaking other stuff. But barring an emergency, or an overwhelming number of spammers, it's probably not worth the trouble

So if it's not too much of a bother, I'm going to skip adding the recapcha to the forum for the time being

I think that the recapcha logic may already be available (or much more easily added) in a later version of the phpBB3 forum software. Unfortunately, upgrading from our current older version would be quite difficult (without throwing away some mods and possibly themes, or causing some forum breakage). Partly because of how the forum has been customized so far, and partly because you need a fair amount of web dev know-how to be able to carry custom mods over like that, between phpBB3 versions. I'd basically need to either spend a huge amount of time on it, or get help from some PHP coder with a lot of free time, to upgrade and keep all the customizations. Upgrading and throwing away many/most of the customizations would be a lot simpler.

Looks like Aquagon already warned the member (thanks), but I don't see any sig, or even a log saying the sig was removed. Is there anything that still needs to be done here?

Actually, that user had a sig filled with ad links, but I already removed it. However, it strikes me as odd that there isn't a log for this.

I've just removed the sig, and I'll end up banning that user too if it begins posting spam.
